Date: 06/11/2023

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Romans

Key Text: Romans 5:1-5

Description:

We have a great NEED — and, by His grace — a great SAVIOR.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans and points to this sobering and magnificent reality that Paul has written about.

For we know that Christ saves us “by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone,” but even so, we may not yet see some of the practical results of this justification by faith alone.

In our passage, the Apostle Paul masterfully connects our theology with practical living and shows us the path that God has laid out for Christian growth.

What we’ll find is that through correct doctrine, we have the proper lens in which to view the world, especially in the face of life’s difficulties.

Questions:

The following are questions to help you think about the sermon, as well as offer a set of discussion questions for family worship, or gathering together in other settings. My prayer is that these questions will allow you to dwell longer, and meditate more, upon God’s holy Word and will be fodder for sanctifying conversations. — M.S.

  1. What does faith do for us? (5:1-2)
  2. What is the ground of our assurance that we will continue at peace with God?  What is the basis of our peace with God? (5:1-2)
  3. What hope does this assurance bring? (5:2)
  4. List several blessings we have as a result of faith and grace. Explain how justification by faith gives us these blessings.
  5. Can you list other passages regarding these blessings that we receive by faith?
  6. It is natural to rejoice in our hope for the future, but we can even rejoice in present suffering. Tell how suffering now produces hope for the future. (5:3-4)
  7. Define tribulation? (5:3-5)
  8. Explain each step in the progression from tribulation to hope.
  9. What keeps our hope strong in spite of continued suffering?  How can we be sure that we will endure through thick and thin? (5:5)
  10. Can you list other passages that show the proper attitude we should have toward suffering?
