Description:

Like a sleeping dragon, sin reclines guarding its hoard.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans and explains that without the law…

Men lie at ease.

Their consciences are at rest.

They think good of themselves.

But then the law comes in and rouses the dragon — turning what was once seemingly peaceful to unleashed fury.

Questions:

The following are questions to help you think about the sermon, as well as offer a set of discussion questions for family worship, or gathering together in other settings. My prayer is that these questions will allow you to dwell longer, and meditate more, upon God’s holy Word and will be fodder for sanctifying conversations. — M.S.

  1. Is the law the source of sin in our lives? (7:12-14)
  2. Though the law is not evil, what problem occurred by means of it? (7:8) Explain.
  3. So, what caused the problem: the law or sin? Cf. James 1:13-15
  4. When could Paul have been alive before the commandment? (7:9) Explain.
  5. What happened that led to his death? (7:10-11)
  6. What happened that led to Paul’s “death”? (7:10-11)
  7. What is Paul’s conclusion about the law? (7:12)
  8. Again, what caused the problem? (7:13) What does this show about sin?  What is the relationship between law and sin?
  9. At what time or point in his life did Paul have the problems he is discussing: under the law or under the gospel?
  10. Do you think most unbelievers think that they are law-keepers or law-breakers?  Why do you think this is?  Is this true of your own life and experience?
