Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor
Series: Romans
Key Text: Romans 7:13-25
Description:
The BATTLE is REAL.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans in which Paul addresses, in chapter 7, the very real internal struggle that Christian believers experience everyday: the battle between the desires of the flesh and the desires of the Spirit.

Yes we live in a Romans 7 world… but it is equally true that we live in a Romans 8 world where victory is certain.
But until then, life will be marked by battle and this battle will never lighten up… until we are called home or the Lord comes again.

Questions:
The following are questions to help you think about the sermon, as well as offer a set of discussion questions for family worship, or gathering together in other settings. My prayer is that these questions will allow you to dwell longer, and meditate more, upon God’s holy Word and will be fodder for sanctifying conversations. — M.S.
- Is Romans 7:14-25 describing an unbeliever, an immature believer, or a mature Christian?
- What significance does verbal tense (past vs. present tense) play in our understanding of question 1?
- Paul says at least seven things about himself in this passage that are not true of unbelievers. Can you name at least three of these statements?
- How do you explain verse 14 if this passage describes a true believer (sold into bondage to sin)?
How does Paul’s conduct compare to his desires? (7:16-18) - What does this teach regarding the law and sin?
- What previous discussion does this relate to? (Think: In what sense was Paul saying, “no longer am I the one doing it”)
- How does Paul describe the problem he wrestled with? (7:21-23)
- What results from allowing sin to rule in our members (7:23) and where else has Paul discussed this?
- Why does Paul describe himself as wretched? (7:24)
- Who has the solution to Paul’s problem? (7:25)
