Questions:

The following are questions to help you think about the sermon, as well as offer a set of discussion questions for family worship, or gathering together in other settings. My prayer is that these questions will allow you to dwell longer, and meditate more, upon God’s holy Word and will be fodder for sanctifying conversations. — M.S.

  1.  What does Paul assume we know or what is the specific promise in Romans 8:28, and how is it articulated? (v. 28)
  2. What is previously mentioned that we do not know? (v. 26)
  3. Is what we know greater than what we do not know? Explain.
  4. What are the two examples of our good that were mentioned in this passage?
  5. How do you interpret the phrase “all things” in Romans 8:28, and what does it encompass in your understanding?
  6. Reflect on a personal experience where you have seen God working for good in a challenging situation. How does Romans 8:28 resonate with that experience?
  7. Consider the idea that God works “all things” for good. How does this perspective influence your response to adversity or difficult circumstances?
  8. Explore the relationship between God’s purpose and the concept of “good” as mentioned in this verse. How might our understanding of what is truly “good” be shaped by God’s perspective?
  9. You often hear only part of this verse quoted (God works all things for good).  Does this part of the verse convey the truth that Paul is writing here?  Explain your answer.
  10. How does Romans 8:28 shape the way we think of God’s sovereignty and provide us assurance?
