Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans in which we’re challenged to allow this idea to transform who we are — as we live in the light of Christ’s return and cast off the deeds of darkness.

Because there IS one debt we should never repay, but rather embrace.

…And that debt is Love.

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 08/11/2024

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Romans

Key Text: Romans 13:3-4 | Matthew 22:17-22

Description:

And then Jesus said, “Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s; and unto God the things that are God’s.”

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans — this time gaining additional insight by exploring our passage through the lens of Matthew.

In a world where government authority often intersects with our personal faith, we’re tasked to navigate the tension between our civic duties and our ultimate allegiance to God.

SBC logo 204x204

How’s that even possible??

What does it means to ‘render to Caesar,’ while at the time, recognizing the limits of earthly power?

Pastor Monty’s Guidelines in Determining:

When to Pushback Against Perceived Overreach

1. Maintain respect for legitimate authorities.

2. Discern between core duties and prudential judgements.

3. Evaluate the longterm ramifications.

4. Seek counsel and Christian wisdom.

5. Weigh the testimony to the watching world.

6. Ask, “Is it worth the offense?”

Divine Order vs. Beastly Rule: A Biblical Perspective on Authority [Romans 13:1-7]

August 4, 2024

SBC frame line - current sermons

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 08/04/2024

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Romans

Key Text: Romans 13:1-7 | Revelation 13:1-10

Description:

Romans 13. Revelation 13.

— Two chapters of the Bible containing two powerful, yet seemingly contrasting passages: Divine Order and Beastly Rule.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans and juxtaposes it with Scripture from the Bible’s final book: Revelation.

In Romans 13, believers are exhorted to submit to governing authorities, recognizing them as instituted by God to maintain order and justice.

But then in Revelation 13, we’re presented with vivid imagery of governing powers depicted as a beast waging war against the saints.

SBC logo 204x204

What does all this mean??

And as Christians, what are we to make of it?

If governance in our earthly world can reflect both divine order and opposition to God — in the words of Francis Schaeffer —

“How shall we then live?”
