Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 07/29/2018

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Revelation

Selected Text: Matthew 13

Description: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed….”

But the disciples – and everyone else in first century Palestine, for that matter – were expecting something quite different. In their minds it was to be a mustard tree…. big, not small…. conquering, war-like, not peaceful.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues the groundwork for our introduction to the book of Revelation and shares how Jesus revealed what the Kingdom of Heaven would be like through parables. And it was with these that He revealed there is a “now” part of the kingdom and a “not yet” part of the kingdom.

Yes, the kingdom will one day be like a mustard tree. It will one day bring forth a reward to the Lord’s faithful and a time of judgement to the Lord’s enemies… but not yet.

SBC logo 204x204

For now it must start small and grow, as God continues to tarry in His grace and mercy, and His kingdom continues to expand through the preaching of the Gospel of grace.

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Revelation

Selected Texts: Matt 28:20; Romans 12:2; Ephesians 2:2; 1 Tim 6:17; Titus 2:12

Description: How you interpret the Bible matters. It’s called hermeneutics.

In the New Testament, Jesus and the disciples give us what’s been called the “Two-age Model.”

Today on the Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues laying the foundation for the introduction to our new study in the book of Revelation and underscores that if we are to have a correct starting place with this study, we must have correct hermeneutics.

SBC logo 204x204

Correctly, understanding the Two-Age Model will be like laying out rooms for us in a house… rooms in which as we can later place furniture – or details – we pick up along the way. Because, as we all know, if we start with the furniture, and later receive the layout, we may find – much to our frustration – that it simply does not fit.

Description:

It may be the most controversial book in the church today…

…and for most, the most confusing (not to mention, most intimidating): the book of Revelation.

SBC logo 204x204

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao embarks upon a new study in this last book of the Bible and shares with us that despite today’s tension surrounding the text, for most of church history, the book of Revelation was a book of encouragement — encouragement to a suffering church trying to remain faithful in a world that opposed both her and her Lord.

Description:

We’ve reached the end of the book of Genesis, and it ends with death…

…the death of Jacob and Joseph. It’s a stark reminder that the curse of Genesis chapter 3 is still upon mankind, even those called by God.

SBC logo 204x204

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao concludes our study in the book of Genesis and shows us that though it ends with the reminder of the curse, it also ends, like Genesis 3, with hope as well…  Hope that the promises of God will one day be fulfilled, and that this dreadful curse will ultimately be destroyed at the consummation of Christ’s kingdom.

Key Text: Genesis 47

Description: As we begin to approach the end of our study in the book of Genesis, it’s easy to overlook the 47th chapter – often lost in the shadows of the ones that precede and follow it.

SBC logo 204x204

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao takes us to Genesis chapter 47 to mine its depths. For it is in this chapter – long before the days of slavery and the Exodus – that we see the distinction God places between Israel and Egypt. And it is in this chapter that we also witness how great God’s provision was for the needs of His people. And through all this we glean a proper perspective of the brevity of life in light of eternity and the promises of God.

But we also see, how in the Almighty’s providence, this entire turn-of-events is by God’s governing over the affairs of men to bring about His purposes.

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 04/08/2018

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Genesis

Key Text: Genesis 39

Description: Genesis chapter 39 oftentimes is looked at as an example of how blessings can come to those who act righteously. But is that really what this chapter is here to show us?

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Genesis and points out that when we remember Joseph’s success came to him as a slave, and then later as a prisoner, it kind of changes our perspective.

What does it mean to be a successful slave or a successful prisoner?SBC logo 204x204

Perhaps God’s intent with Genesis chapter 39 is to teach us something different. Perhaps we are to understand that He is in control and that no matter what life brings – from slavery to imprisonment – we can bear it. Because, just as God was with Joseph, He is with us as well.

Why Did Jesus Need to Die? [Romans 3:23-24]

April 1, 2018

Sermon Notes

Date: 04/01/2018, Easter Sunday

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Key Text: Romans 3:23-24

Description:

Why did Jesus go to the cross?

There are many reasons that Jesus went to the cross. There are human reasons such as Judas Iscariot betraying Him and the Sanhedrin wanting to kill him. …But those reasons see the cross from the perspective of man of things that happened to Jesus – they don’t ultimately answer the question “why.” Because obviously, He had escaped the grasp of evil men before.

SBC logo 204x204Today on our Easter Sunday Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao rightfully sharpens our thinking on this question and shows us that the cross wasn’t just a thing that happened …it was necessary. Jesus didn’t just go to the cross, He needed to go to the cross…He needed to die. For that was His purpose in taking on flesh. So perhaps a better question we need to ask is “Why did Jesus need to die?”

The King Has Come [Luke 19:28-42]

March 25, 2018

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 03/25/2018, Palm Sunday

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Key Text: Luke 19:28-42

Description: Jesus had just raised Lazarus from the dead, and the crowds were following Him as He descended into the royal city of Jerusalem – the King had arrived!

Today on this Palm Sunday, Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao takes us to the book of Luke to show us that as Jesus entered the city, the crowds cheered and lined the road with their coats and branches as they waved palms in the air in celebration of His arrival.  SBC logo 204x204

…But soon the cheering would stop.  Soon the “hosannas” would be replaced with “Crucify him!” – and for this, while the crowds shouted, Jesus wept.

Judah’s Shame [Genesis 38:1-28]

SBC frame line - current sermons

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 03/18/2018

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Genesis

Key Text: Genesis 38

Description:

Average Guy: Okay, so we’re reading through Genesis, and we’re in the middle of Joseph’s gripping story. And then all of a sudden the story just stops.  …And we start talking about things that I can’t believe are even in the Bible!!! …the dirty laundry of Judah – full of lust and deception. Why???

Scandia Host: Good question – because on the surface it does seem a bit disjointed. Not to worry, though, Joseph’s narrative will resume shortly. …But to begin to even understand why the wicked actions of Joseph’s older brother, Judah, are on display here, we need to step back and remember that on a deeper level this is part of the story – and God is the storyteller.

SBC logo 204x204Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Genesis where, indeed, the narrative of the chronicles of Joseph take a seemingly sudden break to cast light on a section of scripture that is outright scandalous – a section of scripture that, honestly, we’d just rather skip. In it Judah’s heart springs forth actions that are both repulsive and shameful. Certainly our Lord and Savior deserves a better forefather than him. But it is in this darkness that our Lord’s grace abounds. For if God did not use sinful people to bring about His glory and purposes, He’d have no one to use. And it is in this moment that we realize that we are no better than Judah.

Preacher: Vasiliy Kaletnik, missionary

Key Text: 2 Corinthians 5:17-20

Description:

Scandia Host: If you are in Christ, you have been called to be a missionary.

Average Guy: I’m not a missionary??? I’m just sitting here in the pew.

Scandia Host: I get it. You better listen up though.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, we welcome back to our pulpit – after an eight year hiatus – Scandia Bible Church supported, missionary and brother in Christ, Vasiliy Kaletnik (of abwe.org)… who for nearly 30 years – since the fall of the USSR – has been preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the very poor and landlocked Eastern European country of Moldova. For all intents and purposes, he’s a modern day circuit preacher, preaching at five different churches during the week and three on Sunday – making disciples and baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

SBC logo 204x204

Following Brother Vasiliy, Pastor Monty echoes a short sermon… that no matter where we are in the world – whether it be in Moldova or Poulsbo – we, as Christians, are all missionaries: we share the same calling, same message, and serve the same Lord with Christ as the head.
