Description: There is perhaps no one in the mind of the Jew who has as much distinction as Moses:
He was miraculously saved as an infant, raised with royalty, sent to liberate his people, and spoke with God face to face — not to mention that he was the writer of the Torah, as well as the mediator of the Old Covenant.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Hebrews and concedes that it’s a pretty long resume that put Moses in this position of honor.
But then in steps Christ who brings a better covenant …and in order to argue this position, the author of Hebrews demonstrates that Jesus is superior to even the great covenant mediator, himself, Moses.
SBC Host: [Bible Reading, Hebrews 2:10] “For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the originator of their salvation through sufferings. For bot—”
Avg Guy:Wait!!! Hold up for a moment! You can’t just read that without prompting some questions: What does it mean that it was *fitting* for Christ to suffer? And what does it mean that Christ was being made *perfect*?? …Isn’t Christ *already* perfect? …And hasn’t He *always* been perfect?
SBC Host: Fair enough.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast —on the Sunday before Christmas — Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Hebrews and shows us that, indeed, these and other questions arise from this Advent passage that we find in Hebrews chapter 2.
Description: In the opening verses of Hebrews we read that Jesus Christ created the universe. …A surprising statement, even for most Christians! After all, didn’t God the Father create everything? And to make matters more confusing, we read that Christ also upholds everything.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues taking us through our study in the book of Hebrews and shows us that this great truth of Christ creating and upholding everything — and, as we’ll learn, making purification for our sins —not only gives us a clear picture of both Christ’s deity and humanity, but continues the author’s argument of presenting Christ as the Final and Perfect Revelation from God.
Description: What do you think Christ looks like? …Like what you see in the movies? …or the illustrations in children’s Bibles?
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and points out that while we all have a picture of Christ in our mind’s eye, the Apostle John gives us a picture of Christ and that is very different from the one we have in our imagination.
What we’ll find is that John is not interested in telling us what Christ looks like; his purpose is to show us what Christ IS LIKE!
And that’s a message that the church needs in every age.
Description: “And I [John] heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet, saying, ‘Write in a book what you see, and send it to the seven churches….’ I turned… [and] saw one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His chest with a golden sash.”
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and shows us that it was not written by an academic with little practical experience or a lofty leader from an ivory tower: Rather the Lord Jesus gave the Revelation to John the apostle who was a fellow partaker in “the tribulation, kingdom, and perseverance, which are in Jesus.”
And like John, we too can persevere because Christ is in the midst of His church.
If God can prevent our suffering then why doesn’t He?
Scandia Host:That’s a good question.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao steps to the pulpit once again following his son, Isaiah’s, tragic death… to wrestle with this. “How can we go to God for comfort when ultimately, God is the one who could have prevented it and has therefore ordained our pain?”
Average Guy: Exactly! That’s what I want to know.
Scandia Host: Well, you better pull up a pew and take a listen.
