writer:We can stop pitching the tent, Eliakim, for the Lord has pitched the True Tent… our True Tabernacle of the Heavenly Realm!
Eliakim:There you go again! You and your writings.
writer:Eliakim, listen to me!…. Don’t you see? Jesus is our Priest, now… our High Priest in heaven… And His work far surpasses what our priests here on earth could EVER do!
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Hebrews, where we learn right alongside them about a better ministry….
writer:Don’t you read Torah?
Eliakim:God warned Moses on the mountain. That’s all I need. Now we have a tabernacle to erect. Grab your hammer, and help me! Follow the plan.
writer:Yes, you are right. God warned Moses to follow the pattern because it had to be precise. This tent, and everything that our earthly priest do in here in it, is but a shadow — a hint — of what goes on in the True Sanctuary of Heaven.
And the work that has been given to our High Priest, Jesus, is much greater than the work of OUR priests.
…Eliakim, don’t you find it strange that this tent we erect, time and time again, has no chair for the priest in which to sit?
Eliakim:How can he! Have you seen all the offerings and sacrifices?? He has far too much work to do!
writer:That is my point, Eliakim. Jesus’ work is different. He has obtained a more excellent ministry than our priests, and the New Covenant which He brings is much greater than the Old… because it is based on better promises.
Eliakim, in the Heavenly Tabernacle there are places to sit. And Jesus, our High Priest, at the right hand of the throne of His Father… SAT DOWN!
SBC Host:What type of priest and sacrifice does God require to save men?
Avg Guy:Bulls and goats, right??
SBC Host:It is true that some have thought that the sacrificial shadows of bulls and goats sufficed; but that doesn’t take into consideration that the sacrifices themselves were offered by priests who were just as in need of a savior, as the people they represented.
Avg Guy:Good point! …Then I know, the answer must be Christ!
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Hebrews and shows us that to say Christ is a fitting high priest or was a fitting sacrifice is to say that Jesus perfectly fit God’s requirement, as well as man’s need.
The Levitical Priesthood could never do that.
But Christ’s perfect priesthood is able to perfect imperfect people and make them fit for heaven.
SBC Host: Assurance of salvation — all Christians struggle with it…
Avg Guy:You’re telling me.
SBC Host: And yet, we understand that Jesus is able to save.
Avg Guy:Exactly!
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Hebrews to show us that God understands and has given us a guarantee, or a surety, to secure our future — and it is Jesus Christ.
Jesus, Himself, is the assurance of our eternal salvation.
We may try to obtain assurance through other means… but such as it is with the Gospel of Grace: all of God’s blessings, including assurance, come to us in Christ.
Description: The high priest of the Old Testament could only enter the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement. And while representing others, he could bring no others with him, nor prepare the way for others to follow, nor could even stay himself… for on any other day, his entrance would mean his death.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Hebrews and shows us that Christ’s High Priesthood is different. Not only has He entered the true Holy of Holies — the very throne room of heaven — He goes as a forerunner to prepare others to follow… all the while, guaranteeing their future entrance to where He is seated and reigns.
Christ, in this way, is an anchor to our souls — our great and secure hope, and our forerunner Who has set the course that we should follow.
Description: There is perhaps no one in the mind of the Jew who has as much distinction as Moses:
He was miraculously saved as an infant, raised with royalty, sent to liberate his people, and spoke with God face to face — not to mention that he was the writer of the Torah, as well as the mediator of the Old Covenant.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Hebrews and concedes that it’s a pretty long resume that put Moses in this position of honor.
But then in steps Christ who brings a better covenant …and in order to argue this position, the author of Hebrews demonstrates that Jesus is superior to even the great covenant mediator, himself, Moses.
SBC Host: [Bible Reading, Hebrews 2:10] “For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things, and through whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to perfect the originator of their salvation through sufferings. For bot—”
Avg Guy:Wait!!! Hold up for a moment! You can’t just read that without prompting some questions: What does it mean that it was *fitting* for Christ to suffer? And what does it mean that Christ was being made *perfect*?? …Isn’t Christ *already* perfect? …And hasn’t He *always* been perfect?
SBC Host: Fair enough.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast —on the Sunday before Christmas — Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Hebrews and shows us that, indeed, these and other questions arise from this Advent passage that we find in Hebrews chapter 2.
Description: In the opening verses of Hebrews we read that Jesus Christ created the universe. …A surprising statement, even for most Christians! After all, didn’t God the Father create everything? And to make matters more confusing, we read that Christ also upholds everything.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues taking us through our study in the book of Hebrews and shows us that this great truth of Christ creating and upholding everything — and, as we’ll learn, making purification for our sins —not only gives us a clear picture of both Christ’s deity and humanity, but continues the author’s argument of presenting Christ as the Final and Perfect Revelation from God.
Description: What do you think Christ looks like? …Like what you see in the movies? …or the illustrations in children’s Bibles?
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and points out that while we all have a picture of Christ in our mind’s eye, the Apostle John gives us a picture of Christ and that is very different from the one we have in our imagination.
What we’ll find is that John is not interested in telling us what Christ looks like; his purpose is to show us what Christ IS LIKE!
And that’s a message that the church needs in every age.
Description: “And I [John] heard behind me a loud voice like the sound of a trumpet, saying, ‘Write in a book what you see, and send it to the seven churches….’ I turned… [and] saw one like a son of man, clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and girded across His chest with a golden sash.”
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and shows us that it was not written by an academic with little practical experience or a lofty leader from an ivory tower: Rather the Lord Jesus gave the Revelation to John the apostle who was a fellow partaker in “the tribulation, kingdom, and perseverance, which are in Jesus.”
And like John, we too can persevere because Christ is in the midst of His church.
If God can prevent our suffering then why doesn’t He?
Scandia Host:That’s a good question.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao steps to the pulpit once again following his son, Isaiah’s, tragic death… to wrestle with this. “How can we go to God for comfort when ultimately, God is the one who could have prevented it and has therefore ordained our pain?”
Average Guy: Exactly! That’s what I want to know.
Scandia Host: Well, you better pull up a pew and take a listen.
