It is one of the darkest scenes in the early life of Christ.
A new King has been born in Bethlehem.
But the throne in Jerusalem is already occupied.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast,
Pastor Monty Simao continues our study in the Gospel of Matthew,
where we see the kingdom of man collide
with the kingdom of God.
For on that throne sits
a ruler hardened by power,
a king consumed by fear,
and a man determined to destroy
anything that threatens his crown.
That man is Herod the Great.
And when word reaches him
that a child has been born
who is called “King of the Jews”—
he rages.
A family flees into Egypt
under the cover of night.
Soldiers march into Bethlehem.
Doors are forced open.
Mothers cry out.
And children are murdered.
It’s a scene filled with sorrow,
exile,
and loss.
And yet, even here,
God is not absent.
The Child is preserved. The Scriptures are fulfilled. And redemption advances exactly as promised.
Because even when the kingdom of man rages against heaven —
A virgin conceives. A righteous man trembles. An angel speaks. And everything changes.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues our study through the Gospel of Matthew — where we are pressed to consider whether the greatest problem we face is not our circumstances… but our guilt before a holy God.
We try to close the gap with effort, education, religion, and a clean reputation.
But Matthew declares that none of this reaches heaven.
The only bridge across this chasm comes from God Himself:
Jesus — conceived by the Holy Spirit, named because He will save His people from their sins, …and called Immanuel — because He — God — is with us.
The King has come —
to cross the chasm
we never could.
Fear presses in… uncertainty surrounds… and the world feels anything but safe.
Where do you turn when danger feels real and protection, fragile?
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, in our Wisdom and Worship study,
Pastor Monty Simao takes us to Psalm 91 —
a psalm that does not deny suffering or threat,
but declares that God is greater.
“The one who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.”
Here we meet the Lord as our refuge and fortress —
the One who covers, keeps, and delivers His people.
Ultimately, Psalm 91 finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ —
the Son who entered a dangerous world at His first coming,
trusted the Father perfectly,
and faced suffering and death on our behalf.
In this season of Advent, we remember that the Child in the manger
is our true shelter —
and the King who will return to deliver His people completely and forever.
Because our hope is not the absence of danger… but the presence of the Almighty.
The wicked prosper… The righteous suffer… And God seems silent.
What do you do??
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao embarks upon a new study of Wisdom and Worship as we walk through selected Psalms and Proverbs.
In Psalm 73, Asaph walks us through a crisis of faith.
Tempted by envy and disillusioned by the ease of the ungodly,
he nearly loses his footing — until he enters the sanctuary.
There, his vision clears.
He sees not only the end of the wicked…
but the sufficiency of God.
In a world where circumstances often lie,
this psalm lifts our eyes higher —
to Christ, our true sanctuary and eternal portion.
What if they didn’t drive your fears?
… because you already knew the end of the story.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Zechariah in which we climb into the “crow’s nest of prophecy” — not to escape the chaos of history, but to see that God is writing it.
For the Lord rules empires, brings down pride, and guards His people.
The question is: When trouble marches toward your life, do you believe that God has already encamped around you?
SBC Host: It’s one of the first questions that a person learns in a new language—
Avg Guy:Excuse me — guy with the microphone. What time is it?
SBC Host: You’re absolutely right!! That’s the first question!
Avg Guy:No, I’m serious.
SBC Host: Oh, it’s 9:58. Church starts in two minutes.
Avg Guy:Good. There’s still time. Where’s the bathroom?
SBC Host: Down the hall and to the right.
Avg Guy: [takes off down the hall, and calls back] How much does it cost?
SBC Host: [calling to him down the hall] The bathroom is free… and so is church!
Avg Guy:Thanks!
SBC Host: [speaking to podcast audience] …And THOSE are the OTHER questions.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Ecclesiastes in which we talk about “time.” It’s what life is made of.
The ebb and flow of events chronicle our days, and yet to what point??
What are we to do with this time we’ve been given?
We frantically attempt to make more of it, quickly spend it, and then try to find it!
But it brings more questions than answers. God has ALL the answers, but leaves us with questions. So what do we do??
Description: Genesis chapter 39 oftentimes is looked at as an example of how blessings can come to those who act righteously. But is that really what this chapter is here to show us?
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Genesis and points out that when we remember Joseph’s success came to him as a slave, and then later as a prisoner, it kind of changes our perspective.
What does it mean to be a successful slave or a successful prisoner?
Perhaps God’s intent with Genesis chapter 39 is to teach us something different. Perhaps we are to understand that He is in control and that no matter what life brings – from slavery to imprisonment – we can bear it. Because, just as God was with Joseph, He is with us as well.
Description: Christmas is preeminently about God’s promise of a coming Savior who would rescue man from the curse of the fall. God’s mercy and grace is always seen in His works and in His interactions with man. In the Garden of Eden Adam and Eve shook their fists to Heaven as they rebelled against God and God cursed them according to the covenant agreement. No sooner had the curse been said God also proclaimed the Gospel of a coming Savior.
Description: This book began proclaiming that God has given the believer every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places and now Paul has taken us from the heavenlies and brought us to our knees. Now as we conclude this book, we are reminded that it is all of God and we require His strength to sustain us …prayer helps us remember that.
