Avg Guy: …It means, mustering the courage and taking a leaping step into the dark.
Avg Gal: …It’s channeling the power that comes from positive thinking to bring about what you want.
SBC Host: These are NOT Biblical views of faith.
Avg Guy/Gal: Oh.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Hebrews and shows how the author not only defines faith for us, but gives us example after example of those that went before, who knew what it meant to live by faith: the saints of the Old Testament.
“But, beloved, we are convinced of better things concerning you, and things that accompany salvation….”
— Hebrews 6:9
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues our study in the book of Hebrews and shows us that amid the stern warning that the author of Hebrews has been giving to his readers, in our passage today, he points to a promise…a promise from God.
But what are the these “better things” that accompany salvation???
And how do they assure us of God’s good works and faithfulness in our lives — and ultimately provide us with, what the author describes as, “full assurance of hope until the end”?
* Unfortunately, our LIVE Stream had some internet instability in the beginning. As a result, the first 19 minutes of today’s service were not recorded. The sermon, however, is completely intact.
Description: What does it mean that Christ is our Great High Priest? And how is His priesthood different from the priesthood of, say, Aaron?
These and other questions must be answered in order for believers to have assurance of their acceptance before God.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Hebrews and reminds us that our assurance begins and ends in the person and work of Jesus Christ…
…And that His priesthood means that His completed work is being applied by our great Mediator and Savior resulting in our perseverance despite our weakness.

Description: John deals with the topic of believers who are battling doubt and provides the Christian’s responses to discouragement and doubt in the Christian life.
Description: The term “worldliness” has taken on so many meanings in Christianity that much of what we hear as things we should avoid have nothing to do with the Bible’s definition it.
Description: John pauses in the giving of tests of salvation to draw the reader’s attention back to the objective foundation and ground of their justification. He addresses the church in all stages of maturity, from the new believer to the spiritually mature. This passage serves as a parenthetical comment, as it were, so that our self-reflection doesn’t leave us looking inside of us for answers but outside of ourselves to Christ.
Description: The seventeenth century puritan, Thomas Brooks, wrote that “assurance is a pearl that most want but a crown that few wear.” A Christian with assurance of faith knows that he belongs to Christ, that his sins are forgiven, that God loves him, and that he will enjoy everlasting life. While many assume that it is presumptuous to desire assurance of salvation, Scripture teaches otherwise. In our text this morning the Apostle John provides us the first of three tests so that the Christian may examine himself and rest, assured!
Description: No words of Scripture “… hold within themselves a deeper mystery than this simple formula of the Christian life, ‘in Christ‘” (J. Gordon). This message takes a quick look at the believers’ faith and walk in Christ. Our challenge remains to reproduce in our lives the righteousness which is already ours in Christ.
