Avg Guy:I believe you could argue that sinning is ultimately good!
SBC Host: That’s a pretty big statement. What do you mean?
Avg Guy:Well, we are saved apart from our works, right?
SBC Host: Right.
Avg Guy:And since we know that “when sin increases grace abounds all the more”… It’s obvious the law is now obsolete.
SBC Host: I’m not sur—
Avg Guy: —It’s simple: More sin equals more grace! And who wouldn’t want more grace?? Ergo, sin is good. I rest my case.
SBC Host: Careful. Your line of thinking will not end well.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans and shows us that this twisted thinking challenged the Gospel.
Man was turning grace into a license to sin — distorting the God’s Word and corrupting many in the church.
In our passage, Paul responds to these challenges to show the impossibility of such a view — using our union with Christ to show how such an idea would be simply absurd.
Avg Guy:The Corona Crisis is Careening out of Control!!! The Constraints are Crazy! Those in Command say we Can’t Congregate, have Crushed Commerce, and have Cut-off Camaraderie! They are Culpable and must be Charged!
SBC Host: Woah! That’s a lot of C’s. Here’s one more: How ought the Christian think about and react to the world around us?
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao preaches a message, as we continue to move through the Pandemic of 2020, that reminds us that what we believe — and the Bible makes this very clear — affects how we behave.
And because of that, how someone reacts to the circumstances of life, gives us insight as to what hey believe about God.
Do they react in fear or in anger?… or is their reaction one of peace?
SBC Host:What do bullies, freedom, and worship have in common?
Avg Guy:I have no idea.
SBC Host: Well, the first is something that we hate, the second something we love, and the third…
Avg Guy:Oh I got it!…is something we NEED.
SBC Host: Exactly.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, as we continue to shelter in place, Pastor Monty Simao continues his series on The Church and asks what happens when all three (bullies, freedom, and worship) show up on Sunday morning?
And how should we think about the binding of conscience and the tyranny of pastors who do things their way instead of God’s?
Description: Paul concludes this epistle confident that it will fulfill his desired intent. His confidence is based on the effects of the Gospel manifested in forgiveness and love.
Description: Paul is careful not to force Philemon to do anything, but rather he makes an appeal based on love and allows the Holy Spirit to lead Philemon in Christian freedom to serve God.
Description: Jacob DeShazer of Salem Oregon took part in World War II’s legendary Doolittle Raid, endured more than three years as a Japanese prisoner of war and later teemed up with his wife to serve as a Methodist missionary in Japan for nearly thirty years.
