Sermon Notes

Date: 08/19/2018

Preacher: Colton Bennett, guest preacher

Key Text: Philippians 1:21-30

Description:

“Now am I beginning to be a disciple. May it only be that I attain unto Jesus Christ, come fire and flood, grapplings with beasts, cuttings and manglings, wrenching of bones, hacking of limbs, crushing of my whole body…. The farthest bounds of the universe shall profit me nothing…. Him I seek, who died on our behalf; Him I desire, who rose again for our sake.”

— Ignatius of Antioch (35-107, earliest post-New Testament martyr)

There’s no doubt that Ignatius of Antioch was “all in” for Christ. How about you? Are you all in?SBC logo 204x204

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, we’re pleased to welcome to our pulpit, guest preacher from Kentucky, and up-and-coming pastor-to-be, Colton Bennett… who describes himself as “a follower of Jesus, lover of Liberty, and passionate voice when the world is silent.” And though he’s only 19 years-old, he has the wisdom-filled insight that though we may all WANT to be “all in” for Christ, the truth is that none of us are… and that is PRECISELY why we need Jesus.

Keith Barker 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 08/12/2018

Preacher: Keith Barker, elder

Key Text: 1 Peter 1:13-16

Description:

Do you remember the Susan B. Anthony dollar? …You know the one that looked like a quarter.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Elder Keith Barker opens the Bible and draws our attention to a problem in America today: a lack of holiness.

Too often the church looks so much like the world, that those that are unsaved see no need to consider the claims of Jesus on their own lives. To them, they all look like quarters – but they’re really dollars. They don’t stand out because they’re lacking holiness.SBC logo 204x204

If by the saving grace of Jesus Christ you are now considered a “dollar”… act like one. Because as He clearly commands: “Be holy for I am holy.”

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 08/05/2018

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Revelation

Key Text: Revelation 1:1-3

Description: The book of Revelation is difficult to understand. Right? It’s cryptic and strange. Not so for the its first readers.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao takes us to the opening verses of the book of Revelation, as our study of this oft misunderstood last book of the Bible gets underway, and explains that to the first readers some 2000 years ago, this book was essentially what we would recognize today as a “New York Times Best Seller.”SBC logo 204x204

How we approach this book matters greatly. And just as we would immediately understand that “Once upon a time…” begins a fairy tale, the first readers of Revelation immediately understood that they were reading apocalyptic literature… and in order for us to understand it, we must too.
