Sermon Notes
Date: 02/18/2018
Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor
Series: Genesis
Key Text: Genesis 37:1-17
Description: God often uses things in our life to prepare us for a road that He will have us walk.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Genesis in which we see God preparing Joseph – Jacob’s second youngest son, who’s now 17 years old – for the trials that await him. God sends Joseph dreams that we all know will one day encourage his heart, but presently seem to do nothing but drive a wedge of further bitterness into his already divided family.
It’s in the trials we face, though, that God’s gracious hand leads us every step of the way, not only during – but as we’ll learn – before.

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor
Series: Genesis
Key Text: Genesis 36
Description: What happens when the wicked prosper and the righteous suffer? … Material success? Worldly prosperity?
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Genesis in which we see the line of Esau – the rejected line – prosper in an incredible way; while Jacob – whom God had named “Israel” or the “Prince of God” – watches from the sideline, trusting God for something far greater than all the accolades the world can give.

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor
Series: Genesis
Key Text: Genesis 35
Description: Have you ever been away a long time from home? Perhaps a month, or even a year? Well, Jacob had been gone for 30 years, and his homecoming brought with it pleasure along with pain.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao returns to the pulpit – after having been away himself for a time to mourn the loss of his son, Isaiah.
He continues with our study in the book of Genesis and reminds us that when it comes to pleasure and pain, most things in life are a mixture of the two. But take note: God is not only with us in our pleasure, He too is with us in our pain… and He proves sufficient for all that He brings into our life.

Key Text: Job 9:32-35;Heb 4:14-16; Matt 26:36-40
Description:
Average Guy:
If God can prevent our suffering then why doesn’t He?
Scandia Host: That’s a good question.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao steps to the pulpit once again following his son, Isaiah’s, tragic death… to wrestle with this. “How can we go to God for comfort when ultimately, God is the one who could have prevented it and has therefore ordained our pain?”
Average Guy: Exactly! That’s what I want to know.
Scandia Host: Well, you better pull up a pew and take a listen.

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor
Key Text: Psalm 98
Description: While the Bible contains 150 Psalms, there is one that captures the true essence of all of them. And yet, if you didn’t know it, its title would fool you. Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao, in the wake of his son’s tragic death, leads us to Psalm 98 – because he was lead there. It’s a psalm that in just nine simple verses, lays out the very heart of worship and the great and wonderful God who is greatly to be praised.

Sermon Notes
Date: 12/17/2017
Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor
Key Text: Hebrews 13:15
Description:
Scandia Host: Sacrifice and Praise.
Average Guy: Wait a minute are we playing a game of opposites?
Scandia Host: No, but I can see what you mean. Because “sacrifice” sounds somber and costly.
Average Guy: –And “praise” sounds joyful… and a lot easier than “sacrifice.”
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao takes to the pulpit once again – following the fresh sting of the sudden loss of his son – and points out that when it comes to these two words, it’s not always one or the other, for the author of Hebrews tells us that we are to offer a sacrifice of praise. In fact, much of the New Testament describes the Christian life as the intersection between these two terms, where they not only meet but become intertwined into the very warp and woof of what it means to be a Christian.

Sermon Notes
Date: 12/03/2017
Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor
Key Text: Psalm 119
Description: Psalm 119. It’s not a Psalm we usually go to when looking for comfort, but, ironically, it has more to say about comfort and affliction than any other Psalm.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues to preach in the aftermath of his son’s tragic death and points out that when you see a passage of affliction in the Bible, take heart in knowing that you are not far from comfort — for this pattern, of passages of comfort following passages of affliction, occurs over and over again… in almost every instance. God is the God of all comfort, and He comforts the afflicted.
When it comes to Psalm 119, we often categorize it as a Psalm about the beauty of God’s word and statutes, but what we’ll find is that, consequently, it is also a Psalm about God’s great comfort.

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor
Key Text: 2 Corinthians 4
Description: How is it that the Christian can be devastated and yet hopeful at the same time? How is it that at the point when we are weakest is also the point at which we are strongest?
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao preaches in the aftermath of losing his son to a brutal horseriding accident and shows us, in the midst of that, that the Apostle Paul answers these questions in the book of 2 Corinthians; and within it we find more beauty in the Gospel for it is Good News even in times like this.

Sermon Notes

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor
Series: Genesis
Key Text: Genesis 34
Description: It’s one of the ugliest chapters in the first book of Bible, and yet God sometimes uses negative examples to teach.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Genesis where we witness humanity’s stench of sin open for inspection in chapter 34. For in this passage we are reminded that even the patriarchs failed and compromised, and that, shamefully, as it happened, the sons of Israel missed the beauty of the covenant that was right before them – turning, instead, what God called sacred into what could only be described as savage.

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor
Series: Reformation Sunday
Key Text: Jude 3-7
Description: On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther took out a hammer and nailed 95 theses to the castle church door in Wittenberg – an act that would catalyze debate and usher in radical change in the church.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao takes a moment to recognize this significant milestone in church history: the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. Indeed, the reformers of yesteryear have left us with a great body of knowledge about God and the church and the state of man; but it leaves us wondering if any tasks remain. Is there anything left for us to do?

Key Text: Genesis 32-24-32
Description: (WWF Wrestling Spoof)
Wrestling Announcer: Get ready because the BWF Sunday Morning Main Event is on! This morning on the Bible Wresting Federation, we witness the guy who knows how to make a mean pot of stew, make your head spin talking speckled sheep, and work as long as it takes to get the wife he wants: Jacob the Deceiver… squaring off with the Great I Am; the Almighty, Awesome Creator of the Heavens and Earth: GOD!
Average Guy: God is so going to win!
Scandia Host: Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Genesis to recount the second time God appears in the flesh: the first, to talk with Abraham; the second, to wrestle with Jacob.
Average Guy: I told you God was going to win.
Scandia Host: You’re right. God was merciful, though, because Jacob got to limp away from this match with only a dislocated hip. But this wasn’t about wrestling – this was a lesson. You see, in this scuffle, God was teaching Jacob something about strife and struggle… and how in those situations THE BEST response (for him and for us) is to simply cling to the Lord.

In Christian circles today, when you hear this word it’s often associated with little coins or trinkets – jewelry in essence – that people buy to show their prayer for protection over another. They can even be seen by some as romantic. Description: There are times in our lives when God, through His grace, will change our affections toward a particular situation to prepare our hearts for a difficult decision. Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Genesis to show us how the Lord did this very thing in the lives of Jacob and his wives. The circumstance: difficult relations with Laban, Jacob’s father-in-law. Description: The “School of Hard Knocks” – a school that no one would voluntarily enroll… But sometimes God has other plans. Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Genesis and shows us that oftentimes God uses trials and difficulties to grow and sanctify us – especially when our lives pattern that of Jacob: lives governed by worship of self and deceit.
