What does a crippled man from Lo-debar have to do with Easter??
…More than we might initially think.

And welcome to our 2024 Easter Sunrise Service for Scandia Bible Church — held in its traditional location, at the lovely waterside home of Elder Keith Barker.
This morning Deacon David Teves shares a message regarding a different resurrection — the one in which Jesus raised His friend, Lazarus, from the dead.
But in doing so He explained to Martha that *He* was the resurrection… and Martha not only believed Him but said as much.
How can there be some much hatred for the one Man who has never sinned?
This Easter Morning on the Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao focuses on HATE. And causes us to consider its polar opposite: LOVE.
For the trials and crucifixion of Jesus show us no greater example of the extreme chasm of these two words — these two actions — than the love of God and the hatred of men.
Jesus came to save sinners because of the great love of God.
As we look back on this day, it’s hard to imagine how one of His own disciples would betray Him. And how the crowds at His own trial would demand His crucifixion.
On one hand, we relate. For we have all experienced hate on some level.
…But, if we’re honest, when it comes to wrongdoing, we’re guilty.

The immediate answer is The Resurrection, which means that the ultimate answer is Jesus Christ.

Description: The prophet Isaiah painted a picture of the rebellion in the nations: a place of idolatry, injustice, and insurrection; a place where God is ignored and His followers mocked, as man sits in his citadels of strength.
…That is, until God brings man’s city to ruin and his citadels to rubble.

God brings people low to make the proud humble and remove the strength of the mighty and bring the ruthless to their knees.

There are many reasons that Jesus went to the cross. There are human reasons such as Judas Iscariot betraying Him and the Sanhedrin wanting to kill him. …But those reasons see the cross from the perspective of man of things that happened to Jesus – they don’t ultimately answer the question “why.” Because obviously, He had escaped the grasp of evil men before.
Today on our Easter Sunday Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao rightfully sharpens our thinking on this question and shows us that the cross wasn’t just a thing that happened …it was necessary. Jesus didn’t just go to the cross, He needed to go to the cross…He needed to die. For that was His purpose in taking on flesh. So perhaps a better question we need to ask is “Why did Jesus need to die?”

Description: The Gospel is the central message of the church and the central figure of the message is Jesus Christ. Yet many in the church can’t define what this message is. Sometimes they even define it in ways that are the opposite to what the Scriptures reveal…ways that don’t lead sinners to salvation but leave them condemned with no good news.
Description: Most Christians don’t associate Easter with Passover. But with some study, one can see how they are beautifully interwoven into God’s perfect tapestry. The parallel of the Passover Lamb and our Lord Jesus — the perfect sacrificial Lamb of God — helps clarify in our minds the wonder of God’s plan for the salvation of believers.
Description: In this sermon, we look at the promise Jesus made to His disciples in John chapter 16. He told them that they would be filled with sorrow even as the world rejoices, but that He would turn their sorrow into Joy. Then we look at John chapter 20, to see the fulfillment of that promise and the benediction of peace that Christ pronounced upon His church on that first Easter Sunday and continues to pronounce upon His people today.
Description: Easter Sunday, the resurrection of Christ, solves the problem of tension that existed among the Old Testaments prophets concerning the coming of the Messiah. The prophets prophesied that the coming Messiah would be a suffering servant who would be scourged, smitten, beaten, and pierced and yet he would also be a conquering king. How could these two apparent contradictions in description possibly be? The answer is found in Easter.
