That’s how Paul described all of his past accomplishments — his background, his accolades, even his religious fervor.
He counted it all rubbish.

Description: The prophet Isaiah painted a picture of the rebellion in the nations: a place of idolatry, injustice, and insurrection; a place where God is ignored and His followers mocked, as man sits in his citadels of strength.
…That is, until God brings man’s city to ruin and his citadels to rubble.

God brings people low to make the proud humble and remove the strength of the mighty and bring the ruthless to their knees.
And most shockingly, He redeems the ruthless so that they too worship Him.

There are many reasons that Jesus went to the cross. There are human reasons such as Judas Iscariot betraying Him and the Sanhedrin wanting to kill him. …But those reasons see the cross from the perspective of man of things that happened to Jesus – they don’t ultimately answer the question “why.” Because obviously, He had escaped the grasp of evil men before.
Today on our Easter Sunday Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao rightfully sharpens our thinking on this question and shows us that the cross wasn’t just a thing that happened …it was necessary. Jesus didn’t just go to the cross, He needed to go to the cross…He needed to die. For that was His purpose in taking on flesh. So perhaps a better question we need to ask is “Why did Jesus need to die?”

Sometimes they even define it in ways that are the opposite to what the Scriptures reveal…ways that don’t lead sinners to salvation but leave them condemned with no good news.
Description: Most Christians don’t associate Easter with Passover. But with some study, one can see how they are beautifully interwoven into God’s perfect tapestry. The parallel of the Passover Lamb and our Lord Jesus — the perfect sacrificial Lamb of God — helps clarify in our minds the wonder of God’s plan for the salvation of believers.
Description: In this sermon, we look at the promise Jesus made to His disciples in John chapter 16. He told them that they would be filled with sorrow even as the world rejoices, but that He would turn their sorrow into Joy. Description: Easter Sunday, the resurrection of Christ, solves the problem of tension that existed among the Old Testaments prophets concerning the coming of the Messiah. The prophets prophesied that the coming Messiah would be a suffering servant who would be scourged, smitten, beaten, and pierced and yet he would also be a conquering king. How could these two apparent contradictions in description possibly be? The answer is found in Easter.

Description: Have you ever wondered if a person who had lived wickedly his whole life and was now on death row could be saved if he received Jesus? Well you don’t need to wonder because the Bible not only answers that question but gives us an account of that very thing. The Penitent thief on the cross who was crucified next to Jesus, gives us one of the clearest examples of Justification by grace thru faith. This man did no good works. He was demonstrably evil, he was a criminal. He knew he was dying and he knew he deserved it. Find out how this evil man saw his sin, saw his Savior, and then was assured of salvation!
