Adam’s Legacy of Sin [Romans 3:9-20]

SBC frame line - current sermons

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 04/16/2023

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Romans

Key Text: Romans 3:9-20

Description:

Avg Guy: Here’s my take: Man is good… basically. But sometimes there are exceptions where — either because of circumstances or people — he becomes evil.

SBC Host: Interesting, but that’s NOT the Bible’s take.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans in which he shows us how the Bible paints a much bleaker picture regarding the human condition. It’s a picture of BAD NEWS: man’s inability to do anything righteous or good.

SBC logo 204x204

But the Bible also proclaims the contrasting GOOD NEWS of the Gospel of Jesus Christ… good news that overwhelms even the sorrowful picture of Romans chapter 3.

Innocent Blood [Matthew 27:1-26; John 3:16]

April 9, 2023

Sermon Notes

Date: 04/09/2023, Easter Sunday

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Key Text: Matthew 27:1-26; John 3:16

Description:

How can there be some much hatred for the one Man who has never sinned?

This Easter Morning on the Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao focuses on HATE. And causes us to consider its polar opposite: LOVE.

For the trials and crucifixion of Jesus show us no greater example of the extreme chasm of these two words — these two actions — than the love of God and the hatred of men.

Jesus came to save sinners because of the great love of God.

As we look back on this day, it’s hard to imagine how one of His own disciples would betray Him. And how the crowds at His own trial would demand His crucifixion.

SBC logo 204x204

On one hand, we relate. For we have all experienced hate on some level.

…But, if we’re honest, when it comes to wrongdoing, we’re guilty.

Notes:

Without the Resurrection…

    1. Preaching would be WORTHLESS.
    2. Faith would be USELESS.
    3. Christ would be a LIAR.
    4. the Cross would mean NOTHING.
    5. Those who have Died before us would be in RUIN.
    6. Following Him would be a WASTE of our time.

Good Friday Service 2023

April 7, 2023

Service Notes

Date: 04/07/2023, Good Friday

Description:

Avg Guy: I’ve never understood why they call it GOOD Friday?!

I mean, Jesus died on this day! It should be “BAD Friday,” right??

SBC Host: It was indeed a *bad* Friday. For Jesus — though He was innocent — was unfairly beaten, tortured, and killed. He was a beloved Teacher, Leader, Mentor, and Friend to many. So, yes, if you were there, it was a “bad” Friday.

…But three days later, that all would change.

Because it would become UNDENIABLY clear, that this Man who was unfairly beaten, tortured, and killed… did so on OUR behalf. He stood in our place, so we wouldn’t have to.

This “Bad Friday,” became GOOD… when those who realized that this beloved Teacher, Leader, Mentor, and Friend… was also the Lord God Almighty — the Creator of the Universe.

Key Text: Romans 3:1-8

Description:

Avg Guy: What’s the use of being a Jew??

SBC Host: Excuse me?

Avg Guy: Well, so far in Romans we’re learning — whether Jew or Gentile — God is impartial and judges us on the law in light of the revelation we’ve received.

SBC Host: That’s right.

Avg Guy: So then, is there any advantage to being numbered among the Jewish nation? Is the Jew still honored in some way?

Key Text: Romans 2:17-29

Description:

Be honest.

Have you ever felt ELITE because you were affiliated or associated with a certain group?

Perhaps it was a fraternity or sorority in college, an all-star sports team, or a select choir or drama club.

Sometimes even involvement in good things can become a foothold for pride.

SBC logo 204x204

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans and reminds us that the Jews felt a national pride that instead of fostering gratitude toward God often resulted in self-importance and sadly blinded them from seeing things in true Spirit-given light.

Description:

SBC Host: Paul says that God is not partial.

Avg Guy: How can that be fair?! I mean, don’t you think the Jews had an inside edge with Moses and all those prophets directing them? What advantage did the Gentiles have??

SBC Host: That’s a fair question.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans in which find an answer to this question.

SBC logo 204x204

For in our passage we find the standard that God will hold man accountable to.

Key Text: Romans 2:1-11

Description:

The false gospel of moralism. It’s a perennial problem within the church.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans and shows us this problem has less to do with the changing generations and more to do with the sin that plagues the human heart.

SBC logo 204x204

In our passage Paul cuts through the weeds of moralism to expose the coming judgment of God.

For God’s judgment brings reward to the believer… but ought to strike terror in those who are trusting in their own goodness.

To those who “abandon” Him, He “abandons” them… and gives them over to the consequences of their own sin.

Today on the Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans and shows us that this is one of the ways in which God’s wrath is revealed.

SBC logo 204x204

“Have it your way.”

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Key Text: Acts 6:1-7; 1 Timothy 3:8-13

Description:

When looking at the structure of the Church, you can’t help but come across the diaconate — deacons.

But just what is a deacon?

Why are they needed?

And what do they do??

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao takes a necessary break in our study in the book of Romans to further our understanding of deacons — because this morning we’re installing not one, but two!

SBC logo 204x204

We’ll see that while the deacon certainly plays a special role in the Church, their role isn’t far off from ours:

the emulation of Christ, Himself.

Key Text: Romans 1:16-17

Description:

What is the Gospel?

Ask a number of different Christians this question, and you’re likely to hear a number of different answers. But how many people would say that the gospel is the power of God unto salvation?

Paul would.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans and shows us how Paul shares that the gospel is not just simply a message… but POWER.

SBC logo 204x204

Do you wonder if God is angry with you when you are weak?

…Or do you wonder if God compares you with other Christians who seem to have it all together?

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans in which we are just about through the Apostle Paul’s salutation to the believers in Rome — a salutation that goes WAY beyond a simple greeting.

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 01/08/2023

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Romans

Key Text: Romans 1:1-7

Description:

And [the jailer] called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas, and after he brought them out, he said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus….”

Acts 16: 29-31a

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Romans in which we see Paul strike upon the key to understanding the Gospel: “the obedience of faith.” …words that seemingly don’t belong together.

For obedience is all about YOU — following the rules, adhering to the Law… but faith is different: It’s about HIM — and putting your trust and belief in the Gospel.

SBC logo 204x204

…Making “the obedience of faith” simply a command to believe.

For while the Law says DO-DO-DO… the Gospel says DONE.

Apostle Paul: Tertius, my amanuensis, grab pen and ink… I must write to the church in Rome.

Tertius of Iconium: At the ready Paul.

Apostle Paul: [dictating] Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord…

Bible scholars agree: Of all his epistles, Paul’s letter to the Romans stands out.

Description:

His greeting went way beyond “Hello.”

Today, Christmas Morning, on the Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Josh Peglow presents us the gift of new a study in the book of 1 Peter — a book that encourages and equips the suffering, exiled Christian.

For in just the first two verses, not only does Peter’s salutation greet — but remind.

SBC logo 204x204

It reminds us of just who we are — through a complex set of mighty designations involving God the Father, the Holy Spirit, and the Son, Jesus Christ… Who’d make His entry into this world — helpless, naked, and lying in a manger.
