Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 10/28/2018

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Revelation

Key Text: Revelation 2:12-17

Description: As Christians we all stand ready to bat down blatant error. We wouldn’t hesitate to spring into action if someone in the church rebuffed justification by faith alone or denied the deity of Christ. …But what if the error was more subtle? …a small compromise that was just enough to give a foothold to the Devil.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and shares with us that while we are all busy gearing for the full frontal attack, the truth is, we forget to guard our flanks. SBC logo 204x204

And when we do, we fail to see the seduction from without, or perhaps more sadly, the false teaching from within — giving permission to those small compromises that we think probably won’t matter.

Keith Barker 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 08/12/2018

Preacher: Keith Barker, elder

Key Text: 1 Peter 1:13-16

Description:

Do you remember the Susan B. Anthony dollar? …You know the one that looked like a quarter.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Elder Keith Barker opens the Bible and draws our attention to a problem in America today: a lack of holiness.

Too often the church looks so much like the world, that those that are unsaved see no need to consider the claims of Jesus on their own lives. To them, they all look like quarters – but they’re really dollars. They don’t stand out because they’re lacking holiness.SBC logo 204x204

If by the saving grace of Jesus Christ you are now considered a “dollar”… act like one. Because as He clearly commands: “Be holy for I am holy.”

Enjoying His Presence in the Morning [1 Peter 2-3]

June 10, 2018

SBC frame line - current sermons
Keith Barker 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 06/10/2018

Preacher: Keith Barker, elder

Key Text: 1 Peter 2-3

Description: As the old saying goes, “If you are too busy for God, then you are too busy.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Elder Keith Barker takes us to the book of 1 Peter to show us that too often we start our day on a run and never quite get time to talk to our Lord and Savior – leaving us with the sad reality that God is more interested in talking with us, than we are with Him.SBC logo 204x204

Our lack of a dedicated, disciplined, devotional time is perhaps the greatest hindrance to our growth as Christians. But our message reminds us that if we meet God each and every morning, we will experience a deeper, closer, and more wonderful relationship with our Lord… Our Lord who loves us so much that He was willing to die in our place.

The Secret of Gethsemane [Mark 14:32-42]

April 29, 2018

SBC frame line - current sermons
Keith Barker 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 04/29/2018

Preacher: Keith Barker, elder

Key Text: Mark 14:32-42

Description: “He plunged into a sinkhole of dreadful agony.” That’s how one Bible translation describes how Jesus felt during His prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Elder Keith Barker opens the book of Mark to explore this prayer that theologians have endlessly pondered. The King James translation says that while praying in the garden, Jesus was “sore amazed” – prompting Martin Luther to describe it as the most astonishing statement in the Bible. SBC logo 204x204

But all this agonizing stress seems out of context for Jesus, doesn’t it? After all, He is the God-man who spoke the universe into existence. But as we examine the situation, it becomes shamefully obvious that He did this for us. All this happened because of our sin. And because of His deep love for us, He surrendered His will and underwent the horrific experience. And then we realize, it’s not out of context for Him at all.

Why Did Jesus Need to Die? [Romans 3:23-24]

April 1, 2018

Sermon Notes

Date: 04/01/2018, Easter Sunday

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Key Text: Romans 3:23-24

Description:

Why did Jesus go to the cross?

There are many reasons that Jesus went to the cross. There are human reasons such as Judas Iscariot betraying Him and the Sanhedrin wanting to kill him. …But those reasons see the cross from the perspective of man of things that happened to Jesus – they don’t ultimately answer the question “why.” Because obviously, He had escaped the grasp of evil men before.

SBC logo 204x204Today on our Easter Sunday Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao rightfully sharpens our thinking on this question and shows us that the cross wasn’t just a thing that happened …it was necessary. Jesus didn’t just go to the cross, He needed to go to the cross…He needed to die. For that was His purpose in taking on flesh. So perhaps a better question we need to ask is “Why did Jesus need to die?”

Description: Good Friday… arguably the most solemn day on the Christian calendar – a day that could hardly be classified as “good” just over 2000 years ago. …But from our vantage point – as we sit on this side of the Resurrection – there is no better way to describe it.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, we invite you to pull up a virtual pew, and join our little country church for our 2018 Good Friday worship service. May the mixture of scripture reading, congregational hymn singing, and church family instrumentals allow you to remember and rejoice in all that Christ has done on our behalf… and that it is indeed good.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao preaches in the aftermath of losing his son to a brutal horseriding accident and shows us, in the midst of that, that the Apostle Paul answers these questions in the book of 2 Corinthians; and within it we find more beauty in the Gospel for it is Good News even in times like this.

Key Text: Jude 3-7

SBC logo 204x204Description: On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther took out a hammer and nailed 95 theses to the castle church door in Wittenberg – an act that would catalyze debate and usher in radical change in the church.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao takes a moment to recognize this significant milestone in church history: the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. Indeed, the reformers of yesteryear have left us with a great body of knowledge about God and the church and the state of man; but it leaves us wondering if any tasks remain. Is there anything left for us to do?

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Key Text: 1 Corinthians 15

SBC logo 204x204Description: The Gospel is the central message of the church and the central figure of the message is Jesus Christ. Yet many in the church can’t define what this message is. Sometimes they even define it in ways that are the opposite to what the Scriptures reveal…ways that don’t lead sinners to salvation but leave them condemned with no good news.

He was described as the “Friend of God.”

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Genesis and shows us that this “friend” was Abraham. And one of the ways this friendship was manifest was when God took him into intimate council before the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah – an act in which we not only see God’s reassurance to Abraham of His justice, but we also see a glimpse into an intimacy that foreshadowed, if even in a small way, the intimacy that Christ purchased for us.

No Room for Jesus [Luke 2:1-7]

Sermon Notes

Date: 12/25/2016

Preacher: Keith Barker, elder

Series: Advent, Christmas Morning

Key Text: Luke 2:1-7

SBC logo 204x204Description:

“A Baby’s hands in Bethlehem were small and softly curled; but held within Their dimpled grasp the hope of all the world.”

– Leslie Savage

Merry Christmas! Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Elder Keith Barker opens the Bible and shares with us that despite the efforts of Joseph and Mary to find suitable accommodations in Bethlehem, there was no room for Jesus.

Christmas is a festive time.  A happy time.  A family time. A time to remember Christmas’ past – perhaps as a child – when the wonder of the sounds and smells and singing of Jingle Bells warmed and filled your heart.  Sometimes though it’s easy to fill our hearts with everything BUT the main point: the marvelous birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.

How’s your heart? Do you have room for Jesus?

For Unto Us a Child is Born [Isaiah 9:1-7]

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Advent

Key Text: Isaiah 9:1-7

SBC logo 204x204Description: The birth announcement of Jesus was not a time of joyful anticipation… but anticipation in the midst of darkness, sin, and pain. Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast as we move towards Christmas this Advent Season, we are reminded that 700 years before the birth of Christ, the prophet Isaiah described the coming Messiah in terms that sounded too good to be true:

Not only will He be King, but He will rule with justice and righteousness; He will increase the nation; He will deliver us from our enemies and bring about a peace that will never end.  And His kingly titles shall be Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, and Prince of Peace.

SBC logo 204x204Description: For 950 years, Noah walked with God. But in the last captured moment of his life, we read that he was drunk and naked and ridiculed by his own son… leaving many of us wondering: “What happened??? He was such a righteous man.”

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, we see that the Bible is careful to record sad events such as this in the lives of great men, to both warn us – lest we also fall – and for us to remember that God alone – not Noah – is the hero in this story (and in every story), and it is to Christ that we are to look.
