From the height of his throne,
he looked like a man
who possessed the world.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast,
Pastor Josh Peglow begins a new study
in the book of Esther —

where King Ahasuerus displays
his extraordinary wealth,
his far-reaching power,
and the glory of his kingdom.

For six months,
he parades its splendor
before the rulers of Persia —

as though his kingdom
could never be shaken.

But Esther begins
by lifting our eyes
beyond the spectacle.

For above the throne of Persia
sits the unseen King —

absolute,
everlasting,
and already working
to preserve His people.

Because only God is great.

And before Him,
the mightiest rulers on earth
are merely
“kings of the anthill.”

An eye for an eye,
and a tooth for a tooth.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast,
Pastor Monty Simao continues our study
in the Gospel of Matthew —

as Jesus confronts
the desire for personal vengeance.

God gave this law
to restrain retaliation
and uphold justice.

But the scribes and Pharisees
turned it into permission
to get even.

Christ calls the citizens
of His kingdom
to another way:

turn the other cheek,
walk the second mile,
and willingly surrender
what you have every right to claim.

Not because justice
doesn’t matter,

but because vengeance
belongs to God.

And because the King Himself
surrendered His rights,
and bore the judgment we deserved…

and freed us
from the burden
of getting even.

as Jesus confronts
the promises we make,
the words we manipulate,
and the loopholes we use
to excuse deception.

The Pharisees had built
a system of oaths
that sounded righteous

while leaving room
to lie.

And their loopholes expose
the same impulse in us —

to shape the truth
to serve ourselves.

But every word is spoken
before the sovereign God.

The Law leaves us
without excuse

and drives us
to the Lord of Truth —

the One whose perfect obedience
is counted as ours,

and whose every word
was true —

and remains
forever true.

The greatest threat
to your marriage
and your soul

is not the enemy
outside the door —

it’s the one inside.

as Jesus exposes where adultery truly begins:
not with the body, but in the heart.

The King presses the seventh commandment
beyond outward restraint
and into the hidden life
of desire —

confronting lust
as adultery of the heart
to be put to death,

and bringing the careless breaking
of the marriage covenant

under the holy authority
of the One who made it.

Because in Christ’s kingdom,
purity is not a mask we wear.

It is a grace we need —

given by the faithful Husband
who forgives,
cleanses,
and restores.
