Series: Revelation

Key Text: Revelation 6:9-17

Description: Last week on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, we saw the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse who were sent out at the bidding of Christ as He opened the first four of the seven seals.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, we come to seal number five and six as Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation.

With the opening of the fifth seal we witness the martyrs that have come out of this present evil age, crying for God to judge the evil doers and avenge them.

SBC logo 204x204The sixth seal is God’s response… for with the opening of this seal, we get a glimpse of the final day of wrath, of de-creation, and the absolute terror the enemies of God will experience.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse [Revelation 6:1-8]

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 01/13/2019

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Revelation

Key Text: Revelation 6:1-8

Description:

I watched while the Lamb ripped off the first of the seven seals. I heard one of the Animals roar, “Come out!” I looked—I saw a white horse. Its rider carried a bow and was given a victory garland. He rode off victorious, conquering right and left.

When the Lamb ripped off the second seal, I heard the second Animal cry, “Come out!” Another horse appeared, this one red. Its rider was off to take peace from the earth, setting people at each other’s throats, killing one another. He was given a huge sword.

When he ripped off the third seal, I heard the third Animal cry, “Come out!” I looked. A black horse this time. Its rider carried a set of scales in his hand. I heard a message (it seemed to issue from the Four Animals): “A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, or three quarts of barley, but all the oil and wine you want.”

When he ripped off the fourth seal, I heard the fourth Animal cry, “Come out!” I looked. A colorless horse, sickly pale. Its rider was Death, and Hell was close on its heels. They were given power to destroy a fourth of the earth by war, famine, disease, and wild beasts.

(Rev 6:1-8, The MSG)

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation in which we are introduced to the four horsemen as we witness the opening of the scroll by the One who is worthy, King Jesus. SBC logo 204x204

While the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are sure to capture our imagination, and the imaginations of pop culture, few even know where these images come from — and even fewer, what they mean. But in the midst of this confusion, Christ, the triumphant Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Lamb that was Slain, releases these horsemen to do His bidding as He brings judgment, warning, and trial upon the earth.

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Revelation

Key Text: Revelation 5

Description: I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a book written inside and on the back, sealed up with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, ‘Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?’ And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the book or to look into it. Then I began to weep greatly because no one was found worthy to open the book or to look into it….”

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in book of Revelation and shows us that all of creation has waited to have the scroll of heaven open:  the book containing judgment and salvation; the book that will set in motion the providential plans of God to bring every wrong and evil to an end and to reward God’s people with everlasting life. SBC logo 204x204

But who is worthy to open the book? There is one!…  The Lion of the Tribe of Judah.  The Lamb who was slain.  Christ is worthy!

“To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.”

Description: We’ve read the seven letters to the churches of Asia Minor… which when taken in totality are a letter to the church as a whole, as well.

…So if that’s the case, how do you get the eyes of the church off of their circumstances as they look to the Lord for strength in all their trials?

SBC logo 204x204Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues are study in the book of Revelation and helps us answer that question by pointing us to God in His splendor and sovereignty.

You see, the bigger God is to us, the smaller are the assaults of this present evil age… not because they are insignificant, but rather because they are put into perspective next to the God of the universe who is worthy of all praise.

“Because you have kept the word of My perseverance, I also will keep you from the hour of testing, that hour which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.” – Revelation 3:10

Revelation 3:10 – one of the most contested verses in this book of the Bible.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation by taking a moment to unpack this particular verse. SBC logo 204x204

Let’s face it, while everyone in the church agrees that Christ is coming again, not everyone agrees on how it plays out. And while there are multiple interpretive frameworks regarding the book of Revelation, how you interpret what it means for “God to keep us” reveals much about the framework you operate from.

Key Text: Revelation 2:12-17

Description: As Christians we all stand ready to bat down blatant error. We wouldn’t hesitate to spring into action if someone in the church rebuffed justification by faith alone or denied the deity of Christ. …But what if the error was more subtle? …a small compromise that was just enough to give a foothold to the Devil.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and shares with us that while we are all busy gearing for the full frontal attack, the truth is, we forget to guard our flanks. SBC logo 204x204

And when we do, we fail to see the seduction from without, or perhaps more sadly, the false teaching from within — giving permission to those small compromises that we think probably won’t matter.

Description: Some of the poorest people are actually the richest… and some of the richest are the poorest.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and shows us that just as the world is not always as it seems, the city of Smyrna was not always as it seemed: Christians were being tortured and killed, and yet they were victorious and obtained the victor’s crown while eternal judgment awaited those in power who were wreaking havoc upon the church.
SBC logo 204x204
As Christians we are not promised to be rescued from life’s trials, but rather to persevere through them… and that God always knows and sees all that we are going through because of Him. And with that, He promises to those that are faithful and complete the race and overcome, that the Crown of Life awaits.

Scandia Host: Not really what I was looking for… but it’s a start. You’d better listen up.

Key Text: Revelation 2:1-7

Description: The Ephesians were intolerant and haters… and for that, Jesus praised them.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and shares with us that in Christ’s letter to the church of Ephesus, He, indeed, did praise them for their intolerance to evil and hating the things He hates.

But most of us don’t consider intolerance a virtue, nor think that there would be something that Jesus actually hates… let alone, wants us to hate too. But that’s exactly what we read.

And in the midst of this, we are told to love.

Sound contradictory? Not at all. SBC logo 204x204

Let’s love the things that God loves and hate the things that God hates… and in so doing, know what it is like to walk in Truth.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and points out that while we all have a picture of Christ in our mind’s eye, the Apostle John gives us a picture of Christ and that is very different from the one we have in our imagination.

What we’ll find is that John is not interested in telling us what Christ looks like; his purpose is to show us what Christ IS LIKE!

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and shows us that it was not written by an academic with little practical experience or a lofty leader from an ivory tower: Rather the Lord Jesus gave the Revelation to John the apostle who was a fellow partaker in “the tribulation, kingdom, and perseverance, which are in Jesus.”  SBC logo 204x204

Key Text: Revelation 1:1-3

Description: The book of Revelation is difficult to understand. Right? It’s cryptic and strange. Not so for the its first readers.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao takes us to the opening verses of the book of Revelation, as our study of this oft misunderstood last book of the Bible gets underway, and explains that to the first readers some 2000 years ago, this book was essentially what we would recognize today as a “New York Times Best Seller.”SBC logo 204x204

How we approach this book matters greatly. And just as we would immediately understand that “Once upon a time…” begins a fairy tale, the first readers of Revelation immediately understood that they were reading apocalyptic literature… and in order for us to understand it, we must too.
