Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Josh Peglow continues with our study in the book of 1 Peter in which we see the apostle begin his letter with an encouragement to praise God for the amazing salvation we have in Christ — a living hope brought about by Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.

For because of His mercy we have a reservation in heaven, guarded by God, to obtain an inheritance — an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and that (as it says in the King James) fadeth not away.

The Pilgrims Hope [1 Peter 1:3-5]

I could not have begun to love thee hadst thou not

first loved me,

or been willing unless thou hadst first made me so.

O that such a crown should fit the head of

such a sinner!

…And so goes —but a stanza of— a rich, Truth-soaked Puritan Prayer.*

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, in his first official sermon as pastor, Josh Peglow takes to the pulpit to illuminate a marvelous hope — a marvelous truth — we find in scripture.

It’s a truth and hope that shows us that God is to be blessed for His work in bringing about an unassailable salvation to His heavenly people.

And the Puritan Prayer? Well, it encapsulates this reality beautifully:

Let thy love draw me nearer to thyself,

wean me from sin, mortify me to this world,

and make me ready for my departure hence.

Secure me by thy grace as I sail across this

stormy sea.

But can we even relate to this stalwart of faith??

Ironically, while our daily struggles may make us feel far removed from what Father Abraham must have experienced, what we’re likely to find is that we share more in common with him, than not.

Let us go to the House of the Lord [Psalm 122:1-9]

SBC Host: Ahh yes… who doesn’t enjoy a good road trip! And chances are you have favorite road trip music to sing to along the way.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, as we continue to Church-at-Home, Pastor Monty Simao takes us on a “road trip” to the Psalms.

As Israelites would travel to Jerusalem for the three Pilgrim Feasts, they would play their favorite music by lifting up their voices in song.

These songs are known as the “Psalms of Ascent.” There are 15 of them, and this morning we look at the third: Psalm 122 — a psalm which gives us an interesting view of Jerusalem with many lessons for the church.
