Sermon Notes
Date: 08/04/2019
Preacher: David Teves, guest preacher
Series: Five Solas
Key Text: 2 Timothy 3:14-17
Description: The Protestant Reformation — an event in church history we tend to associate with Martin Luther and other 16th Century reformers. We tend to forget, however, that Jesus Christ was the Original Reformer.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, brother in Christ, David Teves fills in at the pulpit and shares that Martin Luther and others were simply following Jesus’ example. For the Pharisees and scribes held that the traditions and laws of man were equal with Scripture — just as the Medieval Church and the Pope, 1500 years later in Luther’s day, said that Scripture AND tradition were the authority on truth.

…And, the argument continues to this day: To find truth, are other influences required to come alongside the Holy Scriptures of the Bible… or is the Bible enough?

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor
Series: Revelation
Key Text: Revelation 14:16-20
Description: Fire and brimstone preaching… a style that has certainly has fallen out of contemporary fashion. And yet, the Bible is chock-full of explicit and implicit warning against the coming wrath of God.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and points out that whether the message is read from the Bible, or preached from the pulpit, countless people hear it and delay bowing the knee before God in repentance.

The day is coming, however, when it will be too late to repent… and both the believer and the non-believer will be harvested: one to eternal reward — the other, eternal damnation.

Key Text: Revelation 14:13
Description: God blesses in Revelation what he cursed in Genesis.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Pocast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation in which we see Jesus giving us one of the most profound benedictions found anywhere in Scripture.

…But such is the power of the cross that the very things that we were cursed with, God is able to bring such incredible goodness and blessing from.

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor
Series: Revelation
Key Text: Revelation 14:6-12
Description: The future of the non-believer unfolds in John’s vision.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation in which three angels reveal to John the fate of the non-believer:

The first angel presents the Gospel in a call to repent;
The second, shows the Gospel’s rejection;
And the third, the outcome of judgment that comes to all who renounce the Gospel by refusing to repent and turn to Christ.

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor
Series: Revelation
Key Text: Revelation 14:1-5
Description: Ever wish you could see into the future?
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao shows us that our study Revelation this time around allows us to do just that: giving us a glimpse of God’s people, without question, triumphantly standing with the Lord Jesus on Mount Zion.

In addition, we can’t help but marvel at the depth of God’s faithfulness on display — not even one saint lost, all are known and accounted for.

Preacher: David Teves, guest preacher
Key Text: Ephesians 6:10-20
Description: Spiritual warfare. It’s a phrase we use. But what does it really mean? …And what do we do about it?

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, brother in Christ, David Teves, fills in at the pulpit and digs into these questions by looking at a familiar text, but does so in a way that many churches fail to address — by looking at the context of the letter in which it was written.

Description:
666
… a number in the Bible that for many strikes fear.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and shares with us the irony in that while the being afraid of six-six-six (hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia) is a real thing (as is the word to describe it), its placement in the Bible is not so that we recoil in terror, but rather that we see the POWER of God in all things.

Key Text: Revelation 13:1-10
Description:
Scandia Host: The antichrist — a fascination for many people.
Average Guy: For sure.
Scandia Host: But did you know that while it’s a popular theme in books and movies, the term never appears in the book of Revelation?
Average Guy: Huh???
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and explains that the antichrist has captured the imagination of people everywhere — churchgoer or not.
But what does the Bible say about the antichrist? …And how does that relate to what we read in the book of Revelation?

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Key Text: Revelation 12:7-17
Description: The Cross of Jesus Christ silenced the mouth of Satan before the throne of God and forever removed him from the court of heaven.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and shows us that with Satan unable to accuse believers before God, he turned his attention to the church on earth.
And it is for or this reason, the church on earth has been called The Church Militant… for it is THE CHURCH AT WAR!

Description: A spiritual and heavenly battle is underway… though you may not know it.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and introduces us to a woman, a dragon, and a child — three signs that not only point us to this battle but help us understand and gain a perspective that nothing the Dragon (Satan) does, or will do, can stop God’s providential purposes.

Key Text: Revelation 11:15-19
Description:
Then the seventh angel sounded; and there were loud voices in heaven, saying,“The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ; and He will reign forever and ever.”
—Revelation 11:15
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation where we see the Trumpet Judgments come to an end in much the same way as the Seal Judgments — with images representing the final Day of Judgment and the consummation of Christ’s kingdom.
For the goal is that Heaven and Earth are one and that God’s temple fills the earth… and the final destruction of all His enemies is seen.

Description: Even in the midst of terrible things, God is at work safeguarding His people.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and explains that the protection God affords His people is the point that chapter 10 and 11 make.
For the church follows after her Lord as faithful witnesses who are persecuted even unto death …and yet just like Jesus, God’s people will one day see the resurrection, restoration, and victory.

Key Text: Revelation 11:1-2
Description: A new temple in Jerusalem will be constructed and temple sacrifices reinstituted. …Or will they?
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and shows us how the beginning of chapter 11 draws our attention back to the eschatological temple that Ezekiel prophesied of.
But what is this temple? Is it going to be just like before with animal sacrifices and everything? Or, rather, was Ezekiel’s vision a picture of something greater which finds it’s fulfillment in Christ?

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor
Series: Revelation
Key Text: Revelation 11:1-2
Description: Most people think the end game of the Bible (Consummation) is for God to bring man back to The Garden.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation, and teaches us that in the story of Redemption, that line of thinking is simply NOT TRUE.
No, Consummation will bring us back to a state far better than Eden…far better than anything we can imagine!
For sin will be no more, righteousness will reign, and the garden will have been expanded to the ends of the earth…where God will dwell with us.

Preacher: David Teves, guest preacher
Key Text: 1 Corinthians 15:1-5
Description: After the Resurrection, the disciples had no idea what to do… so they went fishing.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, brother in Christ, David Teves fills in at the pulpit and explains that even after 3 years of living with Him, eating with Him, and listening to Him, the disciples still did not understand what Jesus was talking about.

In fact, it wasn’t until after His ascension that they finally knew what to do: Proclaim the gospel to all nations.
But has modern day Christianity faithfully followed suit? …Or has it fallen into a trap of deception — making the gospel into something it is not.

Key Text: 1 Peter 1:3-9
Description: Have you ever lost hope?
Peter knew what it meant to lose hope.
Today on this Easter Sunday Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao opens the book of 1 Peter to show us that hope fled from him when he watched his Lord die but his hope returned with the resurrection — and he freely shares this hope in his book with discouraged gentile believers — because it was a living hope.

Description: The holiness of God has been described as the sun.
Like the sun, God gives beauty, life, and light… but venture too close and you will be consumed.
Today on this Palm Sunday Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao takes us to two separate passages: one from the Old Testament and one from the New — both demonstrating God’s holiness, seen as He enters the royal city of Jerusalem.

Preacher: Colton Bennett, guest preacher
Key Text: Galatians 3:10-14
Description:
Average Guy: I’m a pretty good person. I’m not perfect, but I do my best. I’m sure once I die, God will see it that way and let me in. He’ll forgive me.
SBC Host: I hate to break it to you, but… God cannot “just” forgive you, because He is JUST. His bar is perfection, and He will not bend the rules or look the other way. There is a penalty. Your sinfulness is a curse, and it must fall upon somebody. It’s called penal substitutionary atonement. “Sorry,” alone, won’t cut it.
Average Guy: Oh.
SBC Host: Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, we welcome back to our pulpit, guest preacher and Kentucky pastor-to-be, Colton Bennett, who not only wrestles with us through the weighty theological subject of penal substitutionary atonement, but points us to the beauty that arose out of it: Christus Victor… Christ is Victorious.
And then we realize that the Gospel is not a message only for the lost, but also the found.

Key Text: Revelation 10
Description: And then John looks up and sees an image that makes Colossus of Rhodes look small and the gods of the Roman pantheon look… well, weak.
Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues our study in the book of Revelation in which witness right along with John…
And yet, as breathtaking as this image is… this amazing being is just simply one of God’s servants do His bidding.

But through this vision, we capture a glimpse of God’s amazing sovereignty over a seemingly chaotic world which will one day come to an end — when the mysteries of the Lord Almighty will be revealed in the renewed world that awaits.
