Preacher: Colton Bennett, guest preacher

Key Text: Galatians 3:10-14

Description:

Average Guy: I’m a pretty good person. I’m not perfect, but I do my best. I’m sure once I die, God will see it that way and let me in. He’ll forgive me.

SBC Host: I hate to break it to you, but… God cannot “just” forgive you, because He is JUST. His bar is perfection, and He will not bend the rules or look the other way. There is a penalty. Your sinfulness is a curse, and it must fall upon somebody. It’s called penal substitutionary atonement. “Sorry,” alone, won’t cut it.

Average Guy: Oh.

SBC Host: Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, we welcome back to our pulpit, guest preacher and Kentucky pastor-to-be, Colton Bennett, who not only wrestles with us through the weighty theological subject of penal substitutionary atonement, but points us to the beauty that arose out of it: Christus Victor… Christ is Victorious.SBC logo 204x204

And then we realize that the Gospel is not a message only for the lost, but also the found.

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 03/31/2019

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Revelation

Key Text: Revelation 10

Description: And then John looks up and sees an image that makes Colossus of Rhodes look small and the gods of the Roman pantheon look… well, weak.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues our study in the book of Revelation in which witness right along with John… a mighty angel coming down from heaven, clothed with a cloud, rainbow on his head, and face shining like the sun with feet like pillars of fire.

And yet, as breathtaking as this image is… this amazing being is just simply one of God’s servants do His bidding.

SBC logo 204x204

But through this vision, we capture a glimpse of God’s amazing sovereignty over a seemingly chaotic world which will one day come to an end — when the mysteries of the Lord Almighty will be revealed in the renewed world that awaits.

The skies over the Euphrates swarm with airborne military weaponry: helicopters, jets, and drones crowd the air. And like metal locusts equipped with rapid fire guns in their mouths and bombs in their tails, they have orders to incessantly attack and destroy.

SBC logo 204x204

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation in which we turn our attention to chapter 9 — a chapter that has has certainly captured the imagination of Bible interpreters from around the world — with interpretations as varied as an invasion of Apache helicopters to an army of genetically modified locusts who prey on flesh instead of vegetation.

But, are these interpretations in line with what John is trying to communicate? … or have we moved away from the purpose of the book?

Description:

And the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared…to sound them.

The second…and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea….
The third…a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch….
[And with] the fourth…the sun…the moon and…the stars were struck, so that a third of them…darkened….

Rev 8:6-12

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation in which we see the first four Trumpet Judgements unfold. SBC logo 204x204

And what we’ll find is that like the first four Seal Judgments, the first four Trumpet Judgments come as a set — a set that, astute readers will recognize, comes out of Israel’s great period of redemptive history…the Exodus.

Preacher: David Teves, guest preacher

Key Text: Ephesians 2:8-10

Description:

Average Guy: If you want to get to heaven, you’d better have a good looking résumé, because the things you do while your here matter.

Average Gal: Total nonsense! Everyone knows that once you get a “Grace Card” from Jesus, works are meaningless.

[argument between the two]

Scandia Host: There is much confusion in the church today as to what good works are and why we need (or need not) do them.

SBC logo 204x204

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, brother in Christ, David Teves, fills in at the pulpit to preach on a topic that greatly separates Christianity from other religions: GOOD WORKS.

The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse [Revelation 6:1-8]

SBC frame line - current sermons

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 01/13/2019

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Revelation

Key Text: Revelation 6:1-8

Description:

I watched while the Lamb ripped off the first of the seven seals. I heard one of the Animals roar, “Come out!” I looked—I saw a white horse. Its rider carried a bow and was given a victory garland. He rode off victorious, conquering right and left.

When the Lamb ripped off the second seal, I heard the second Animal cry, “Come out!” Another horse appeared, this one red. Its rider was off to take peace from the earth, setting people at each other’s throats, killing one another. He was given a huge sword.

When he ripped off the third seal, I heard the third Animal cry, “Come out!” I looked. A black horse this time. Its rider carried a set of scales in his hand. I heard a message (it seemed to issue from the Four Animals): “A quart of wheat for a day’s wages, or three quarts of barley, but all the oil and wine you want.”

When he ripped off the fourth seal, I heard the fourth Animal cry, “Come out!” I looked. A colorless horse, sickly pale. Its rider was Death, and Hell was close on its heels. They were given power to destroy a fourth of the earth by war, famine, disease, and wild beasts.

(Rev 6:1-8, The MSG)

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation in which we are introduced to the four horsemen as we witness the opening of the scroll by the One who is worthy, King Jesus. SBC logo 204x204

While the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are sure to capture our imagination, and the imaginations of pop culture, few even know where these images come from — and even fewer, what they mean. But in the midst of this confusion, Christ, the triumphant Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Lamb that was Slain, releases these horsemen to do His bidding as He brings judgment, warning, and trial upon the earth.

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Revelation

Key Text: Revelation 5

Description: I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne a book written inside and on the back, sealed up with seven seals. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, ‘Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?’ And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the book or to look into it. Then I began to weep greatly because no one was found worthy to open the book or to look into it….”

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in book of Revelation and shows us that all of creation has waited to have the scroll of heaven open:  the book containing judgment and salvation; the book that will set in motion the providential plans of God to bring every wrong and evil to an end and to reward God’s people with everlasting life. SBC logo 204x204

But who is worthy to open the book? There is one!…  The Lion of the Tribe of Judah.  The Lamb who was slain.  Christ is worthy!

“To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.”

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Elder Keith Barker shares that too often we as Christians neglect the wonderful access and fellowship opportunities we have with our and Lord and Savior, because we fail to follow the clear and simple instructions found in Psalm 46:10:

Revelation 3:10 – one of the most contested verses in this book of the Bible.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation by taking a moment to unpack this particular verse. SBC logo 204x204

Let’s face it, while everyone in the church agrees that Christ is coming again, not everyone agrees on how it plays out.
