Because you see, Genesis Chapter 20 is not a chapter recorded to Abraham’s honor, but it is recorded to God’s grace.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our Study in the book of Genesis in which he takes us through the descendants of Noah in Chapter 10… and shows us that while genealogies are often tedious to move through, God always has a purpose for what He reveals in His Word. Oftentimes to see His purpose, though, we need to view a passage through the eyes of redemptive history. And when we do this with Genesis 10, we see more than a genealogy: what we see is a picture of God’s judgment, grace, and Gospel.

The passage in this message has some wonderful insights that are too often overlooked. May the Lord slow each of us down to the place where we can fully grasp what the Bible is telling us in this amazing section from Luke 23.
Description: With only 600 men of Benjamin who survive the Battle at Gibeah, Israel is in danger of losing one of her tribes…permanently. Taking matters into their own hands, the Israelites travel down a dark road trying to fix a problem by human means and sin while claiming to be righteous.
Description: At 147 years of age, old Jacob of the book of Genesis had a departing lesson for his grandsons. It is without a doubt the greatest truth that can be given to the following generations.
Description: In this section of the book of Judges, the author introduces the cycles of unfaithfulness on the part of the people and the deliverance from the hand of God.
Description: Our children are much the same way. We tend to have the Prodigals or the Pharisees. We tend to think of the Prodigals as hard to parent and we are always telling them the rules and the things that God requires. While the Pharisees actually seem to get either praised or largely ignored. After all, since they follow the rules, they require so much less…don’t they?
The truth of the matter is that our children can fall into both categories on any given day. Sometimes our rebellious children follow the rules for a while and it seems that we are making so much progress. And sometimes our rule-following children go through seasons of rebellion. The categories are not hard and fast but rather designed to be descriptive.
What we fail to remember is that the Gospel is not about following the rules to get saved. The Gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ obeyed the law perfectly for us. In other words, both our rebels and our rule-followers need the same thing. They need a Savior who has pleased God in all things and who has purchased their forgiveness by His death on the cross.
The ironic thing is that we fail to give either child the Gospel. The Prodigal just gets scolding and punishment. We tell them over and over what is expected…we tell them the rules. Our Pharisees get praised for doing the right thing.
Description: Rather than denying the Gospel, the Devil would like us to distort the Gospel. That plan of his has not changed since the days of the Apostle Paul.
Description: In chapter 4 the first of Job’s friends, Eliphaz, breaks the silence and provides council to Job. It is miserable council. Eliphaz believes that calamity only follows sin and so has already concluded that Job is in sin and calls for his repentance.
Job is discouraged by his friend and eventually turns his plead to God. In fact, Job is so discouraged that he requests God turn His gaze away from him and let him die in peace.
Description: Our passage this morning shows us two things about God. The first is that God never gives up on His people, He has a tenacious grip on us… and the second is that God’s amazing plan of redemption is larger than most of us think. God will redeem all of His creation and reverse the curse of sin.
Description: The book of Jonah is a highly unusual book. There is no other book like it within both the minor and major prophets. It’s unusual in that the prophetic message is not what’s important but rather the narrative that surrounds it.
Description: In this sermon we take a step back from the text and view some of the central tenets of the narrative. We look at 3 great things that it teaches us:
Description: Jonah is a storied presentation of the gospel and juxtaposes the way and heart of man and the way and heart of God. Man flees and God pursues. Man flees in one of two ways: by obedience (as the Pharisee) or in disobedience (as the Prodigal). God pursues both Pharisees and Prodigals with His message of salvation in the good news of Christ.
Description: Even thought he was known as “The Teacher of Israel,” Nicodemus has his ignorance and unbelief of the scriptures exposed by Jesus. The truth that Jesus taught to Nicodemus and teaches the world today is “believe”.

Description: Nicodemus has his religious world turned upside down as Jesus reinforces His teaching that he must be born again to enter the Kingdom of God!
Description: Nicodemus, a Jewish religious leader, came to Jesus with questions. As he complemented Jesus and acknowledged His miracles, wisdom, and that He was from God, Jesus challenged him. He told him that he must be born again to enter the Kingdom of God!
Description: John, in chapter 2 tells us by the works of Christ Jesus, His deeds, that He indeed is God. To confirm this, John gives eight different sign miracles. All of these eight miracles are different, no two are alike. The first miracle that John presents is the miracle that takes place at a wedding in Cana.
Description: On this first day of the first month of the New Year we examine if we have indeed put on the new self who is being renewed daily by the One who created him.
