Date: 06/06/2021

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Hebrews

Key Text: Hebrews 7:4-10

Description: When it comes to Hebrew history and identity, how could anyone be greater than Abraham?

SBC logo 204x204

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues our study in the book of Hebrews and shows us how the author begins his argument for the superiority of Christ by showing us the superiority of Melchizedek over Abraham.

And in his argument lies the very representative principle of not only covenant headship but redemption as well.

According to the Order of Melchizedek [Hebrews 7:1-3]

SBC frame line - current sermons

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 05/30/2021

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Hebrews

Key Text: Hebrews 7:1-3

Description: Melchizedek.

We know so little about him, and yet, he and his legacy loom so large.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Hebrews and attempts to shed some light on this most mysterious character in the Bible.

SBC logo 204x204

And the mystery, in part, is not what we DON’T know about him… but what we DO: For he was “made like the Son of God” and is without a father and mother.

Descriptions like these leave us, at best, scratching our heads — and, at worst, dangerously trying to connect the dots… leading us to false conclusions and confusion.

Jesus: The Source of Salvation [Hebrews 5:5-10]

March 14, 2021

SBC frame line - current sermons

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 03/14/2021

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Hebrews

Key Text: Hebrews 5:5-10

Description:

Avg Guy: Okay… I just read Hebrews chapter 5, versus 5-10, and I have questions.

SBC Host: Let’s hear them.

Avg Guy: All right…

    1. If Jesus is God and knows all things then how can He learn obedience?
    2. What does God require by which men can be saved and have fellowship with Him?
    3. If Jesus is God and perfect, how can He be made perfect?
    4. And… What qualifies Jesus to be our Savior, anyway?

SBC Host: These are daunting questions, to be sure.

SBC logo 204x204

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Hebrews and reminds us that questions like these can leave our minds reeling if we have not acquired the theological framework to think through them.

How we answer these questions will say much about our understanding of Christ – the only Savior.

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 02/28/2021

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Hebrews

Key Text: Hebrews 5:1-6

Description: What does it mean that Christ is our Great High Priest? And how is His priesthood different from the priesthood of, say, Aaron?

These and other questions must be answered in order for believers to have assurance of their acceptance before God.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Hebrews and reminds us that our assurance begins and ends in the person and work of Jesus Christ…

SBC logo 204x204

…And that His priesthood means that His completed work is being applied by our great Mediator and Savior resulting in our perseverance despite our weakness.

Draw Near to the Throne of Grace [Hebrews 4:14-16]

February 21, 2021

SBC frame line - current sermons

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 02/21/2021

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Hebrews

Key Text: Hebrews 4:14-16

Description: We know that Jesus was tempted as we are tempted… and yet, He was without sin.

SBC logo 204x204

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Hebrews and points out that Jesus’s temptation, and corresponding sinlessness, is supposedly mentioned in the book to help us draw near to Him, for He sympathizes.

The problem is that Jesus’ sinlessness makes us think Him unapproachable.

The question before us is…what are we missing???

Clean Out the Old Leaven [1 Corinthians 5:1-13]

SBC frame line - current sermons

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 09/27/2020

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: The Church: Church Discipline

Key Text: 1 Corinthians 5

Description:

“Shouldn’t this person and his conduct be confronted and dealt with?…You pass it off as a small thing, but it’s anything but that. Yeast, too, is a ‘small thing,’ but it works its way through a whole batch of bread dough pretty fast. So get rid of this ‘yeast.’ ”

[1 Cor 5:2, 6-7 MSG]

SBC logo 204x204

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues our study on Church Discipline and notes that Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, seems to instruct a very different and — dare I say — more drastic method for church discipline than what we learned from Jesus in the book of Matthew.

Why is this? …And why, in order to correctly view and apply church discipline, must the church exercise wisdom?

SBC frame line - current sermons

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 09/20/2020

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: The Church: Church Discipline

Key Text: Matthew 18

Description:

“If any man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go and search for the one that is straying?” [Matthew 18:12]

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues our series on the Church, and specifically church discipline, as we look at the teaching of Jesus in Matthew 18.

SBC logo 204x204

And what we find is that this is not an isolated text, but a theological treatise that not only instructs in the HOW of church discipline but the WHY, as well — and roots discipline in the Gospel of grace.

Discipline’s a Good Thing [Hebrews 12:1-3; Matthew 18:15-17]

September 6, 2020

SBC frame line - current sermons

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 09/06/2020

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: The Church: Church Discipline

Key Text: Hebrews 12:1-3; Matthew 18:15-17

Description:

SBC Host: How does the word “discipline” strike you?

Avg Guy: Strike me? … Oh I get it! Striking happens with discipline. [laughs]… Hey you turned off my mic!

SBC Host: Yeah, I meant to do that.

When we hear the word discipline, most of us think of strikes from the rod, dunce hats while standing in the corner, public embarrassment, and frankly, nothing good.

SBC logo 204x204

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues our series on The Church in which we learn that while the word discipline may conjure up negative images…it’s not negative at all.

In fact, it is actually something we need, ought to want, and is commanded — in the life of the church.

Monty Simao 2014Sermon Notes

Date: 10/27/2019

Preacher: Monty Simao, pastor

Series: Revelation

Key Text: Revelation 19:11-16

Description: Everyone of us pictures Jesus in some way in our minds. Oftentimes, though, these pictures come more from pop culture than they do Scripture.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao continues with our study in the book of Revelation and shares that no matter what your picture of Jesus is, it likely falls short of the vision John received in chapter 19.

SBC logo 204x204

You see, if your picture of Jesus is “Jesus meek and mild,” then you might do a double take when He — the mighty Warrior King — comes galloping into battle on His white horse with robe dipped in blood.

Keep Going. Stand Firm. [Philippians 3:12 – 4:1]

SBC frame line - current sermons

Sermon Notes

Date: 10/20/2019

Preacher: Kris Baines, guest pastor

Key Text: Philippians 3:12 – 4:1

Description: There’s no doubt we’re living in challenging times — times in which there is an unprecedented effort to marginalize Christian values.

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, we welcome back our Down Under pastor and pianist friend, Kris Baines, to share the encouraging message that though we face challenge, with Jesus, we can remain unshakable.

SBC logo 204x204

For though the world — like never before in recent history — now celebrates and normalizes things the Bible condemns as wicked, sinful, and perverse, we as followers of Jesus Christ are called and empowered to “keep going and stand firm” in our Christian walk.

Coming into Contact with Christ [Luke 24:1-33]

August 11, 2019

SBC frame line - current sermons
Sermon Notes

Date: 08/11/2019

Preacher: Anthony Mathenia, guest preacher

Key Text: Luke 24:1-33

Description: If you could experience just ONE event in Biblical history… what would it be?”

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, we welcome Guest Pastor Anthony Mathenia, from Christ Church in Radford, Virginia… who asks us this very question: What one event would you choose?

There are so many, to be sure — whether we choose to watch the Lord speak the Universe into existence or witness the miraculous birth of Christ; be there as God parts the Red Sea or marvel as Jesus prepares a meal for five thousand.

SBC logo 204x204

The truth is, it would be hard to choose just one.

But as we contemplate the epic experiences we might choose, Pastor Mathenia asks us to consider an event that might not make our Top Ten:

What would happen if we took a walk with Jesus?

Preacher: Kris Baines, guest pastor

Key Text: Mark 1:29-39

Description: If a TV crew followed you around for 24 hours, would it be worth watching?

Today on Scandia Bible Church Podcast, we welcome to our pulpit New Zealand Pastor, Kris Baines, who shows that we can learn a lot from reviewing the day in the life of someone… especially when that someone is Jesus Christ.

SBC logo 204x204

For when we review a 24 hour period of Jesus’ ministry in the book of Mark, we find Him to be a man of compassion, a man of service, a man of prayer, and a man of purpose. And that, in turn, encourages us to be the same… in His strength, for His glory.

Key Text: Luke 19:28-42

Description: Jesus had just raised Lazarus from the dead, and the crowds were following Him as He descended into the royal city of Jerusalem – the King had arrived!

Today on this Palm Sunday, Scandia Bible Church Podcast, Pastor Monty Simao takes us to the book of Luke to show us that as Jesus entered the city, the crowds cheered and lined the road with their coats and branches as they waved palms in the air in celebration of His arrival.  SBC logo 204x204

…But soon the cheering would stop.  Soon the “hosannas” would be replaced with “Crucify him!” – and for this, while the crowds shouted, Jesus wept.
